Library Assistant, Woods Memorial Library (Barre)
The Woods Memorial Library seeks a technology-savvy and customer service-oriented individual to join our team. Responsibilities include assisting patrons at the adult and children’s circulation desks, processing and shelving library materials, providing basic technology help, and performing general library tasks. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, books, and technology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Checks materials in and out at the circulation desk, registers new patrons, answers telephone, assists in processing inter-library loan materials.
2. Maintains order within the library by returning materials to their proper locations and reorganizing shelves as needed. Assists with the collection of statistics relevant to the library’s circulation.
3. Assists patrons with the selection of library materials, and assists with research and the use of reference materials.
4. Assists patrons with the use of technology as needed, sometimes referring transactions to senior members of staff if the patron requires lengthy, ongoing assistance.
5. Assists in processing library materials as assigned.
6. May assist with the planning and implementation of library programs and activities.
7. The staff may assist in the receipt of designated funds and donations for the Barre Library Association activities, such as book sales.
This is a part-time, non-benefited position working for a minimum of 8 hours per week. Flexibility is required, as hours may include daytime, evening, and weekend shifts to meet library staffing needs.
Qualifications
A responsible and dependable individual with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Must be comfortable using computer programs and other technology. An interest in libraries, library materials, and research resources is preferred.
